Amazing, simple and elegant witha personal touch! We went 07/13/2012 with a party of 7, as a "thank you" dinner for my mother and father in law. The personal attention, fresh ingredients, and passion for detail was more than we expected at every level. The maître d' greeted my wife (whom made the reservation) by name when we walked in and was joyful and accommodating. We got a 2009 northern California Cabernet Sauvignon (that complimented every dish perfectly) and ordered apps and the main dish. My wife chose this place in particular because they had Italian and German style plates on their menu, which would please everyone in the family, especially her father who appreciates German food. I got the Scallops Florentine as a starter and my mouth was in heaven from the word go! Perfectly cooked and seasoned with just the right amount of sauce. For the entree I got the roasted Chilean Sea Bass and was nearly drooling on myself with the first bite! The presentation, taste and texture were all spot on. Then to finish off an evening of enjoyment, I got the fresh baked Apple Strudel with vanilla ice cream and nearly went into song :) Needless to say, we all enjoyed the culinary mastery and company, which made the night a success! I highly suggest this for any family dinner, or to impress and woo a woman. Thanks for a memorable night!

Alfred's is awesome. I would put it in the top 3 restaurants on the island if not the best. I have been here the last two time I vacationed on the island. The food is amazing and have tried most of the items by sharing with friends. The real treat here is the waiter. I see some reviews complain about him but I found him knowledgeable and very helpful in choosing a good wine. He is very direct and to the point tho because he is usually the only one waiting tables.. the place is small. If you found the waiter rude and it ruined your experience never come to new york or new jersey you will get eaten alive at the mcdonalds. I wish I lived near Alfred's

What a wonderful restaurant!!! We started with the shrimp cocktail and the scallops florentine with sautéed spinach in an amazing Chardonnay sauce....this sauce had us hooked immediately! Our entrees were the Chilean Sea Bass with Mashed Potatoes and Sautéed Spinach and the Veal Chasseur. Both dishes were unbelievable! We finished the evening with the Apple Strudel...I had only planned to have one bite...I ended up eating half of it! Our waiter Cos provided excellent service and recommended our new favorite Pinot Noir Meiome. We decided that this restaurant is worth making the drive from VA to Hilton Head once or twice a year just to eat here. The restaurant is tucked in the back of the little village of businesses so be aware of this. It is walkable from the Marriott Resort.

Sadly, the server was so rude multiple times within the first 10 minutes, we left. I don't have words to describe how egregious the service was. We went to Lowcountry Backyard and were treated wonderfully to an amazing meal.

We travel quite a bit particularly to NYC. Alfred's is outstanding. The ambiance is cozy and pleasant. It gets points for having a tolerable noise level. It is small so it is not surprising that service is attentive. What makes Alfred's a "must visit" is the phenomenal food. Tuesday was our third visit and we weren't disappointed. There were six of us who ordered a variety of dishes, from grouper to the German plate to the veal chop. We were all clean platers. We recommend Alfred's unconditionally.

We apparently saved the best for last during our first trip to Hilton Head. We just happened to hear the bar tender at our Hotel talking about this place and it did not disappoint. We took our kids (6,8) because we didn't have a choice and def received some glares but it's a festive {albeit generally older) crowd and Guillermo the host was wonderful after we passed his smell test. Maybe it was my wife speaking german to the kids. Anyway, strongly recommend the Schnitzel, Brats, White Bean Soup, Shrimp and Scallop over Linguini and the apple strudel. All great. I'm not sure when I'll be back in these parts but will make sure we come back here if we do.

We got there later in the night on Friday. We were greeted by a enthusiastic and somewhat eccentric maître d'. The temperature of the place is a bit cool so bring a sweater. The food was tasty and definitely well prepared. They have an open kitchen look to the prep area which is very nice. It was not very busy but it is a rather small space. Escargots was delicious with a lemon/white wine taste, not over oily or buttery. I also had what would normally be called the "Bavarian plate" which included a trio of the different types of German foods, sauerbraten, Viener schnitzel, and bratwurst together with two sides sauerkraut and spetzel. For German food it seems to be the only place on the island, or even in the vicinity of the island. Overall I would say it was good taste for good value.

We had no idea what to expect when we visited Alfred's. We were blown away. The food was as good as any German food we have had in the country or Germany. Service was excellent. The German beer selection was a bit limited. The owner was very friendly and colorful. Check out the menu and make a reservation. Load their address into your GPS, Alfred's is a bit difficult to find (as is everything on HHI).

We vacation in Hilton Head for a week almost every year and always make it to Alfred's at least two times. It has always been fantastic. The staff makes great suggestions on specials, wine pairings and desserts. HHI has great restaurants and this is our favorite one. Be sure to make reservations.

The food & waiter was excellent- small restaurant so call ahead and make reservations. It is expensive but worth the price. We both thought it was superb!!

Best food on the island, hands down. It's a tiny place, so make a reservation! Also, let the staff order for you, you won't regret it!

Very good food. I had the French onion soup as an appetizer...perfection! Lots of cheese and onions. I then had the salmon with bernaise sauce, which was good, but the sauce could have been a little thicker. Both my parents got some version of veal which they liked. Only 3 stars b/c there aren't a lot of options for those who don't eat meat...only 2 fish options, and no chicken or pasta options.

Best Fine Dining Restaurant on HHI. We eat here everytime we are on the Island, which is frequently. The French Onion Soup is full of cheese and delicious, the scallop appetizer unbelievable - especially the sauce they use with it. Salads are good and shrimp cocktail is also good. It's hard to choose an entree but I usually go with the potato encrusted halibut with generous lump crab meat on top and that special sauce! The veal and pork chops are huge and they also do a remarkable job on all steaks. They also have a good Chilean Sea Bass served with mashed potatoes. I've never had anything here I haven't liked, Just save room for the apple strudel served with ice cream. I wouldn't recommend taking young children here. Great wine selection.

This is a restaurant that everyone should experience. We are going back again tonight after eating there last night. The food is fabulous and atmosphere is quaint and friendly My lump crab salad appy and Wiener schnitzel was perfect and their veal bratwurst melts in your mouth. Going to have duck tonight. Or maybe fish? Hmmmm... Then Apple strudel you won't believe! Alfred's is a must for any Hilton Head visit!

This tiny restaurant has wonderful food. I had one of the specials of the night, a veal chop with a fabulous mushroom sauce over spatzle and freshly sautéed spinach. The veal chop was cooked perfectly. My bf had the fish special of the night and was equally impressed. I have been coming to HHI for many years and just discovered this little gem by asking our server, at Pomodori (another fabulous restaurant), what was her favorite place to eat on the island. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but who cares when the food is great!

Chef Alfred, well known for his tenure at very excellent restaurants (Maxwell's, La Masionette, Maxx, and Jaxx),has been sabotaged by arrogant help. The head waiter or what ever his position is called at Alfred's would be better employed at a snobbish New York second rate establishment. If you can tolerate such treatment the food is certainly first rate. If you are like me where great food is only one of the reasons for choosing fine dinning, you will choose another place. Hilton Head has several restaurants of equal food quality where the service is far friendlier.

When we arrived the restaurant was empty except for another couple. Thirty empty seats, but since we didn't have a reservation the maitre d' abruptly brushed us off to the end of the bar. The German dishes were tasty, except for the red cabbage. We probably won't go there again because of the unfriendly treatment. The restaurant had not filled when we left, only ten had been seated. Don't know why we couldn't have had a table when 20 seats were still empty. Lesson: make reservations before you go.

Went to Alfred's this evening for dinner. I hade the mix platter which was great. Everything was great with regards to the food and service. Not easy to find but that is the way it is in Hilton Head.

Alfred's never fails to please! The food and service are always outstanding. Eleven of us went together and every meal was hot and perfectly prepared. Reservations recommended!

This has become one of our favorite restaurants on Hilton Head Island. It is an intimate place with a continental menu with a number of German specialties. You are greeted as if you were a long-time customer and served by an attentive staff of the owner and one long-time waitperson. The wine by the glass list is excellent and the food well-prepared. Go for the Wienerschnitzel or the Veal Scalopinni - both served with spaetzele. Reservations are mandatory die to the small size of the restaurant.

Tonight was our first trip to Alfred's. We come to Hilton Head Island twice a year, and constantly search for restaurants that offer excellence. Alfred's does that. Outstanding food and service on this first visit. We will be back on our next trip.

I have been going to Hilton Head for the last four decades and so I know most of the restaurants ,yet the more I dine here the more I realize that although Hilton Head has over 250 restaurants ,only a dozen or so are worth spending your money on. I have been going to Alfreds the last 3 years ,sometimes more than once in the 4 weeks I stay here. What was once an outstanding restaurant has droppoed a bit on quality.I love duckling and Alfreds had a pretty good version of that ,although I always wondered why they never used an orange or cherry sauce with it.In any case we went to Alfreds again this year ,ordered the duck as usual but noticed that it was bigger than usual. This is an indication that the duck was older ,and so it was.Dry ,tough ,slightly crispy ,but not the quality I was used to.A terrible disappointment ,we have had the wiener schnitzle before ,that was not as good .The red cabbage which I used to love is very weak on flavor .Afreds is a very small intimate restaurant and maybe other dishes would have been a better choice, however I feel if you can't make all your dishes tasty ,drop the ones that are not good.As I said there are about a dozen great restaurants on this island ,my favorites ,Wise Guys,Frankie Bones ,Tapas,Eat,Charlie l'toile verte. The one I loved the most and now out of business The hoffbrauhouse.I haven't eaten ar Conroys ,or Redfish which have a good reputation ,but if you stick to the before mentioned restaurants you will be happy.
